Zamość in the war

2 articles · 1941–1942

Around Zamość Odilo Globocnik searched for descendants of old German colonists, and in November 1941 more than 2,000 Poles were driven out of seven villages near the town to make room for German families. From November 1942 the SS expelled about 110,000 Poles, including about 30,000 children, from the Zamość region; the operation was halted in 1943. In May 1942 transports of Jews from Zamość went to the Sobibór extermination camp.
